Londoners - Oyster question
Quick question about the Oyster card. Is it possible to use a single Oyster card to 'buy' two tickets on a bus just by touching in twice? It wouldn't lose them any money and seeing as you don't have to touch out on the bus I see no reason why it shouldn't work, although it probably still won't.
Me and the old man are going up to London next week but he doesn't have an Oyster and it would seem easier to do it that way rather than faffing about with tickets (seeing as we won't be using the Tube). Cheers, Brig

Pretty sure the answer is no. I tried it a while back and the card would only be read once by the machine. Maybe if you scanned it once at one machine and then moved down the bus a bit to another it may work.

Like Burble, I'm pretty sure the answer is no. Scanning on two different machines may actually cause more problems (and still not get the result you want). In the admittedly unlikely case that questions get asked the rule is always one ticket to one passenger.

You'd get far more people complaining about having been charged twice compared to those you'd help. Plus there'd be nothing to stop you claiming you'd just been charged twice anyway and getting your money back. Just unworkable.

Barclaycard are doing a credit card with Oyster in that gives 5% cashback on Oyster:-
5% cashback on Transport for London (TfL) spend and 0.5% cashback on all other spend until 1st June 2010 (up to £15 cashback per month). Not much but better than nothing, thought I would let people know. |
