Default F1 with a budget cap!

Creature asked me along to Silverstone for testing again this year, thought it would be a good chance to have a dabble at motorsport pics. After debating what to buy, in the end I thought it best to just play with the toys I have and see what I could do. As I've not done anything like this before and with my best lens having a MASSIVE 50mm zoom I felt like a right amateur standing next to people with 300mm L glass.

Anywho the pics. Wanted to play with panning but with no zoom that's near enough impossible without going near the fence, these were just to have a play and not for any collection.

Slightly cropped as I didn't have the black fence lines in

Really wish there wasn't any fencing as I could have had some great shots

How hard is it to get pictures right when panning?

It's all down to practice and technique. Even such seemingly mundane things as foot position can have an impact.

Very when I kept wanting to move, meaning he had to adjust for the speed every 10 minutes

For future reference, if you go to the viewing area on the outside of Priory the viewing position is high enough that you can shoot over the fence. That spot is very popular with the togs who aren't professional enough to get media bibs.

Not sure what access is like on GP weekend though, most of the year it's just a bare area of tarmac but I think they put a temporary grandstand up for the F1

The proliferation of high catch fencing at major circuits is becoming a serious pain in the ass tbh.

Considering your 'limitations' you've got some great photos there
