Ear piercings
If you get your ear pierced, can you pick the jewellery, or do you have to start off with a stud?

Ooooh, I am going back 20 years here since I had mine done.
I think you have to have a stud in for about 6 weeks before anything else. I still wear an earring from time to time.

Can you at least pick a style, or does it just have to be a ball?

Its usually a ball or one with a crystal in it, not seen any other styles but maybe at a tattoo/piercing place might have something different.

The reason they use a stud for first 6-8 weeks is that it will heal quicker than with a ring in it.
Depending on the piercer you should be able to have different jewellery straight away but it will take alot longer to heal.

I don't want a ring, but I just don't want to have a plain stud.

In Claire's Accessories you can have any type of stud you like (well you could when I worked there) plain gold, blue crystal, white crystal, red crystal, silver... etc you just have to pay more for different colours.
Used to be £8 (£4 for plain gold studs and £4 for the piercing) and you got a bottle of cleaner for free (to bathe your ears - make sure you bathe and turn every day) One bloke had a cartilage piercing (top of ear) and asked if we could remove it as it was causing him jip. He hadn't bathed and turned and the skin had grown over the stud. A&E for you matey! BB x |
