What you can't see is the little sod is dreaming and twitching like he has St Vitus dance, he usually bugs me so he can sit on my lap but I wanted to do something which involved the keyboard and he gave up and compromised on disabling my arm.

If a cat isn't currently in the way of whatever you are doing then they're plotting how to get in the way. It's just the natural order of things. I'm glad to see your cat is no different.
