Best combat based films/shows?
I wondered if anybody might know of any good films/tv shows/docs based on warfare/modern combat.
I'm a big fan, but don't really know what else there is to watch. So far my favs are; band of brothers Generation Kill The Hurt Locker any ideas? |

Well, you put the word "modern" in there. That shoots down any and all suggestions I might make. All mine are Vietnam and older.

Jarhead? Heard that's meant to be good, though not seen it myself. Obviously the new Pacific Front band of brothers thing is out next year, which will need looking out for. Also Black Hawk Down, but I didn't think much of that.

Hmm, can't think of many more myself. If you want some recent ones (but done on older wars) then you have e.g. Battle of Iwo Jima, Flags of Our Fathers, Katyn etc.

oh yeah, i've got Jarhead and Flags of our Fathers on HD-DVD. forgot about those!
I'll have to have a word with a friend of mine when I head home this weekend, he's started a Masters in Military History this year and always has a few documentaries from discovery/history channel that are worth finding! |

I thought Black Hawk Down was exceptional, I've got a HD copy which is simply awesome to watch, I'd highly recommend it

Really enjoyed that film. The story's excellent. So is the score, Lisa Gerrard did some of the vocals (she did some on the Gladiator too).

As long as you follow it up with the book, and find out some of the things the film missed.

I did read up about the "Battle of Mogadishu" afterwards, are you recommending the "Black Hawk Down" book? Is it called that?
