New Laptop :D
I've finally bitten and bought myself a new laptop which arrived this morning.
It's an Acer 7738G Processor: Intel® Core 2 Duo (T6600 - 2.2GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB cache) Screen: 17.3" (Acer CineCrystal, LED Backlit, 1600 x 900 Resolution) RAM: 4GB (DDR3 1066MHZ) Hard Drive: 320GB Optical Drive: Blu-Ray (Blu-Ray HD Play back + DVD-RW & CD-RW) Graphics: Dedicated (NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 240M with 1GB DDR Dedicated Memory) Wireless LAN: Wireless (WIFI LINK A,B,G,N Includes MIMO) Network Card: 10/100/1000 Gigabit Fast Ethernet Integrated Webcam: Yes (Acer Crystal Eye Integrated 1.0Mp webcam) Card Reader : 5-in-1 card reader (SD//MS/MS-Pro/MMC/xD-Picture card) USB Ports: 4x USB 2.0 Ports Bluetooth: Version 2.0 Speakers: Dolby Home Theater VGA Port: 1 External VGA Port Kensington Lock: Kensington lock slot HDMI: 1 HDMI Connector Finger Print Reader: Fingerprint Reader All for the princely sum of £510 delivered which I thought was a bit of a bargain. The only problem is it came with Windows Vista 32 but I've already stuck 7 64 on and stuck ubuntu on my old laptop (it'll just be a web browser for the family). It's been a while since I've had any kind of PC/laptop that can play games so I'm looking forward to seeing what this offers. What have I missed? Is Spore worth a play and I believe this can handle Crysis so I'll grab a demo Of this too? Any other PC only title I should take a look at as the last thing I played was Eve about 5 years ago. Really quite excited Last edited by Aboobie; 15-01-2010 at 18:05. |

New toys are always good and being an Acer you'll hopefully have no problems with it!

I wouldn't bother with Crysis, it's a shockingly boring game IMO. I absolutely detested it. I don't think Spore is very popular either, it got a lot of mediocre reviews and seemed to disappoint the vast majority by not living up to its promises.
Games wise, Football Manager 2010. |

How on earth did it give a GT240M 6.4 for gaming graphics, my GTX260 only gets 6.3 :/
As for games, you could give the Crysis demo a go but I wouldn't expect miracles, 1600x900 will be pushing it, Crysis is a hugely demanding game even now and a GT240M isn't exactly a powerhouse (no laptop GPU is and their names are hugely misleading with regards power). edit - just stumbled on a benchmark where a spec of Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 2GHz 4096MB RAM GeForce GT 240M (550MHz), 1024MB (790MHz) managed Crysis at 32fps running at 1024x768, medium settings and no AA or AF.

Lovely specced laptop, that's exactly the type I want to get when I get a new one. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get it from for £510 new?
