Default Sleep Cycle alarm clock as mentioned by Blighter

As mentioned by Blighter in the iPad thread and as bought by me late last night I felt I just had to give this app its own thread.

On Blighter's suggestion I bought the Sleep Cycle alarm clock and set it for 09:00 this morning, wondering how it would cope with my incredibly restless sleep patterns.

At around ten to nine this morning I'd practically woken up. I'd glanced at the clock and noticed the time, feeling quite awake. I wondered whether to shut my eyes and go back to sleep or go with the awake feeling and get up (I'd forgotten that I had that alarm set).

All of a sudden my iPhone started playing a tune to wake me up, but I was already awake! I got up and I don't feel tired. It does seem to have worked out that it was the right time for me. If I'd rolled over and nodded back off again I'd probably have dropped straight into deep sleep.

So today it worked well.

I generally don't sleep well on Sunday nights and it's not something I'm going to rely on this quickly as if I'm not awake in time then I don't just mess up my day but also the person that I car share with but I'm certainly going to run it for the week and see how it goes.

So far so good though.

Here's last nights sleep pattern.

I still haven't had time to use it properly yet because my stupid cat has a habbit of pulling the lead so it falls off of my bed

I uses the accelerometers in the phone to detect movement, if you aren't moving much you are in deep sleep.

It'll work anywhere on the bed Theres a test function and it works at the foot of your bed too.

Surely theres a LOT more to measuring deep sleep than movement? I mean you look at researchers who are checking for deep sleep and i requires a lot more hardware!? I like the idea but i it sounds more gimmicky to me? I am hugely cynical over almost anything like this though...

/Edit:A quick google would suggest this:http://thenextweb.com/shareables/201...ile-you-sleep/ would probably be a lot more beneficial, but yeah also a lot more expensive because it actually measures things sensibly?

//Edit2: Although lots of people do seem to swear by it, but i do wonder how much of it is in their head? If it works i guess no one cares for a few pennies!

If you're concerned about putting a phone near your head overnight then just put it in airplane mode.

Personally I don't believe the theories that RF at the incredibly low levels from mobile phones is damaging at all, I've been near significantly higher fields than a phone can generate since I was about 8 or 9 and it's not affected me at all *twitch*

Which is what they say in the instructions too.

Doesn't seem to be very keen on my pocket sprung mattress (no surprises there). Even right next to my head it wasn't very reliable in test mode and didn't go off until 9 (the time I'd set) even though I was somewhat awake.

I'll persevere. I got a very restless nights sleep last night so that probably didn't help.
