One of my academic colleagues is undertaking architectural investigation into the theories of shrapnel damage, ruination and other interesting elements found through urbexing (urban exploration) and prolonged study; there's a lot of pretentious waffle but there's also some absolutely fascinating gems hidden around - if you know where to look as quoted by the website!
I love stuff like this; Bristol and bits of Cornwall are also superb!

Geocaching can give you similar, there are some great ones around London, like the Jack the Ripper series that takes you round all the locations he's said to have killed in, and gives you some history as well.
There's others too but it's late and can't think, but will come back and post again |
