Default Blackfish - Visiting Sea World

Hey guys and girls.

Managed to get my hands on the documentary film Blackfish and well it kind of reinforced how I feel about establishments like Sea World and Zoos.

If you are planning on visiting Sea World in the future, please take a couple of hours of your time to watch Blackfish before you book anything and really consider what you are financing. The place truly breaks my heart.

In short, as far as I am concerned places like this should be illegal. I really cannot see how they can get away with putting creatures of their magnitude in such isolated and non-natural conditions.

IMO, if you want to admire such marvellous creatures (we're talking not just of Orcas/sea life but of all animals in Zoo like establishments - not including rescue centres per se) you should do so in their natural habitat.

I know lots of people will argue that they can be good educationally (I call shenanigans here though) and be inspirational (again, shenanigans) and not everyone has the monies to go on Safaris or boat cruises but you know what? If you really truly want to see these animals you can find a way. Plus... if you can afford to go to Sea World, you can for sure afford a boat cruise off the coast.

I don't want people to think I am saying you're nasty if you have been or do go, I mean I was taken when I was a child and remember being very excited and although enjoying some of it I was so upset when I saw deep cuts on one of the dolphins. I also remember being told that the swimming pool was their home (I wanted to know when they would go back to the sea) and them dodging questions when I asked how they came to being there - I kind of expected that they had been "saved" type thing. Little did I know at my young age how the likes of Sea World would harvest their animals.

I just think perhaps people don't necessarily see the full picture before they go. My folks didn't realise until they went over 20 years ago with I and now they've been they would never dream of going to such a place.

Just.

Yeh. Take a look at the film, well worth it I think.
