Company of Heroes - HELP!
Company of Heroes
Mission 5 : Montegbourg (red ball express) Is it me or am I the only one having problems with this mission. It is without a doubt the hardest mission I’ve played in any game. Everything was going well with this game until I hit this mission. The first objective to rescue Dog Company is easy enough but from then on, it’s a nightmare. I’ve spent 5 hours on this mission and I‘m no further. Tactically, once I’ve rescued Dog Company I have retreated back to HQ and set up a defensive position. Then the ten panzer tanks roll in. There not too much of a problem because I can use the infantry to throw sticky bombs at them as well as my Sherman’s having a blast at them to. Soon or later though, I have to start moving out to capture fuel and ammo points as ammo runs dry but leaving camp leaves them at risk and I’ve lost camp a few times I know I can’t afford to loose any of my 3 tanks, but they take such hit and the engineers don’t have time to repair them on field. Is their way of increasing the riffle squads? I only seem to be able to produce engineers? How do I get more, each time these guys leave camp, I have to watch their numbers and pull them back quickly so can build their numbers up before loosing them. I just don’t have the man power to push forward and to defend what I have and Axis armies are re-spawning from all over the place. The lack of resources is stopping me progressing yet there seems to be no way of moving forward or calling for support. Some extra riffle squads would help. I’m giving one more session on this and I’ll call it a day. Any ideas? :undecided:

When you rescue Dog Company, retreat back to your base at the start of the map. Once you're there fortify it and hold your ground, gradually taking more and more space . That's how I did it and it was fairly easy, if time consuming. Sadly I lost my *copy* ahem when I wrote it to disk and it corrupted. I'll buy it nearer to Christmas anyway as it was a damn good game. Anyway, did you get your conroe huddy? If you go right as you enter the map, there's tonnes of anti-armour stuff, so just man that. Also up the left of the map there's quite a few anti-armour weapons. To get more men just get your engineers to build more buildings

so do i hold the camp until all the 10 panzers are gone?
What type of building do I need to build to get more troops other than engineers? I've not seen these extra anti arour stuff. How long did it take you to do this? I've not got the conroe yet, as i'm stil lbuilding my work shop. Once that's done, then i'll upgrade my main rig and the rest of the bits will be moving out the workshop. Hopefully soon but there has been a delay in the electrics

Boo! I held there until I had killed the panzers. I surrounded my base with anti-armour and the machine gun nests. The anti-armour is to the right of the road (as your troops enter the map, it's right from them). There's also anti-armour stuff on the left of the road further up.

Hmm when I did this I rushed in a saved dog company, left a couple of tanks in that courtyard to nail the ones that keep pouring over the wall (with some engineers to keep em all repaired) put a couple of tanks on the road by the way into the courtyard with some ant tank guns around them (which blows the living crap out of anything that comes down the road, all 10 panzers dead in about 5 minutes) then with whatever I had left I used to take the far right building and others around it (the ones in the corner NE of you HQ) then moved across the map with that small force until I reached the secondary base, made a mess there and then moved all tanks forward on attack move to take the point on the road, then cleared the mines wth the Shermans (who managed to pretty much wipe everything else out on their way) job done. oh and incase you didnt know you only need 1 of the second lot of points to complete the mission (2 in total)
Havent tried just rushing the 2 points after the Panzer attack with mine clearing Shermans but may work, ill have a go tonight.

Think I may have replaced a couple but mainly had engineers keeping them alive. Theres a couple of anti tank guns you can pinch down the left of the main road, added a couple of my own and they were my main defence for that road with just a Sherman helping them out and to stop the Panzers trying to get behind the AT guns, once they were dead and while taking the building over the other side of the map I moved the sherman and AT guns Inch by inch up the road to the 2nd point, just so happens as I got them to the second point and took it (so finishing the level) my other squads were ready to take the other point if I needed it

top middle of the map? yes. just put a tank on the bridge when coming from the East and he'll nail everything for some reason he can hit them but they cant hit him (well the main buildings cant) I just kept probing with a tank and a couple of light tanks and half tracks until only the main building were left and as above let my sherman take em from distance.

Right - I had a bash Friday night as the wife was out with mates..
then I played CoH After 4 hours, I made some progress. After retrieving dog company, this time I built up a barracks and made sure base was well defended. I sent out 2 tanks with plenty of engineers and rifflemen to take out as many fuel and munitions points as i could before the tank attack. As soon as the 10 tanks appeared, I retreated to base and picked off all the tanks on by one. As soon as all 10 were gone, I then continued taking points from the south upwards. However, it was obvious that these were under threat all the time their base was intact. As soon as I took that, which wasn't that hard, AXIS attacks have died down and I have over half the map. I just need to take the top third now. The only thing is, there is an armoured tank around which really hit my base for six but i can't seem to get him. I left it there whilst I was ahead At least it's progress but I have 100% never played a game this hard. Maybe I'm trying to hard. Thinking too tactical when i should be more offensive.
