Default Damnit, I want to install Vista.

But my machine may not be up to it, at least not up to it enough to fully appreciate the upgrade.

AMD XP-3200+
1Gb RAM
IDE drives
6600GT video card

All nailed into a Shuttle case so a hardware upgrade isn't the easiest thing to do.

The last time I was this keen on an OS upgrade was from 98 to 2000 and I still prefer 2000 to XP although I do use XP on my day-to-day system now.

Damnit.

That should handle vista fine, ram is marginal really, 2gb is really necessary for all the bells and whistles. But it will work fine on that machine.

Had it running on a 1.8ghz Celeron with 1gb test system at work and it was a bit chuggy but worked.

Would be installing it this weekend, but the software we produce doesn't work on Vista. Isn't likely to until we do a complete re-write of the core modules either. So at LEAST 12 months. All new code is VB.net or C## or whatever though so should be fine.

I do however have a copy of Vista Ultimate from Microsoft Along with Office 2007 *which I have installed as it rocks.*

Tempted to dual boot my new workstation *mmm...8 core Xeon* at work with it though. 2x160 gb drives in it so 1 for Vista and 1 for XP

Monday is hardware change at work day. Surprisingly as I have to spec all the machines do all the crawling around on the floor, my workstation appears to be more powerful than everyone elses. I wonder how that happened?

Been forced to go TFT though. Expect to be home by lunchtime with a migrane.

Just an obvious point (which I'm sure you'll already know) - make sure you get the 32 bit version or the retail which contains 64 & 32 as your chip is 32bit only.

Agree with Flibster, it should work well enough to experience it.

My laptop is getting Vista Business and Office 2007 tomorrow

Yes, it'll work. No, I don't see the point. From what I've experienced Vista is overrated bloatware.

I wouldn't bother if you are a gamer mate it'll cause more problems than anything else.
I'm waiting for everybody else to get up to speed and for everybody else to iron out the bugz.
When all is sorted i'll go DX10 & vista and will have millions of threads to gleam for bug fixxes etc.

I'm not a gamer and couldn't give two hoots about DX10, or IE7, or Office 2007 for that matter. That just about rules out all the arguments for installing Vista for me.

Microsoft may not understand this, but forced use of toolbars sucks.
