Default IT LIVES!!

My 1990 Silverado truck is fully operational now. My son wouldn't let me have the laptop long enough to get a couple sound clips of the open exhaust, but later today I'm planning on getting some of it as it is now.

Even with the exhaust fully hooked up it STILL sounds mean!! And boy, does that thing GO!! Took it out on the road and hammered it. It's not quite drag car impressive, but for a big ass heavy 4X4 truck it sure is!!

Certainly is amazing what 45 cubic inches and a properly working fuel injection system will do to improve your acceleration!! I thought the old '81 truck you've all seen the infamous picture of could get up and go. This one leaves it literally in the dust!!

Now to run a few tanks of good petrol through it and start the mileage calculations. Hopefully I'll be getting somewhere around 15-18mpg out of it.

Once I get it running perfectly I'm going to look into putting a hydrogen injection system in to improve the mileage even further. I know this thing won't run completely on hydrogen. It needs some dyno juice to keep things from rusting inside the engine, but I figure if I run a 50/50 mix of air and hydrogen coming in the intake it should kick the mileage up to about 20-25. That's the plan, anyways. I'm going to give it a shot and try it. Couldn't do it on the old one as it was a carby, hence no way for it to moderate the fuel mixture like the FI can on this one.

Anyways, tomorrow I call the insurance company and have them take the old truck off and put this one on. \o/

Please remember Garp. 15-18mpg over here is 18-22mpg for you folks. Not too bad for a truck with a gross towing vehicle weight of over 15,000 pounds.

And since its primary purposes will be hauling close to 3,000 pounds of firewood or gravel or putting a snowplow blade on the front and pushing up to 2 feet of snow aside, it's GOT to be big!!

Trust me, if I didn't have to haul wood, I'd be driving one of those 1.0L 3 cyl Geo Metro's. But for me it's cheaper in the long run to only tax and insure the truck and drive it than it is to tax and insure the truck AND another car.

Please also remember it's 17 years old and FAR outweighs anything Land Rover ever put on the road...

True.. I forgot you american people have strange measurements over there
22mpg isn't far behind my old Corsa, she usually manages just 26-28mpg and she struggles up hills when she has four adults in her

*collapses in shock* You mean... your... someone... who actually needs a vehicle that size? *collapses in shock again* These days it seems nearly half the vehicles on the road are large SUV and Truck size things that never touch grass let alone mud or rough territory, and often have little more than one or two adults in them.

Geo Metro? Not sure I've seen them.

Awesome news Darrin! I always enjoy your car tales.

I get probably less than 18mpg but that's probably because I drive heavy footed **** mother nature, long live gas guzzling big displacement engines
