Meh! AntiVirus Software

Having become infected a while back with a Trojan that Norton missed, I swapped over to NOD32 and now find that Panda scan picks up three whereas I did a full in-depth scan with NOD a few hours ago.

Are all antivirus products universally ****e or is there one less ****e than the others?

BTW, AVG didn't pick any of these up either.

It's all down to how recent the viruses are. If they're very new or very old, they're all ****e.

NOD32 is supposed to be one of the best and Panda isn't rated very highly. What does that tell you?

Avast is my AV of choice. Works well, auto updates itself every day when I switch my PC on. Hasn't missed anything yet (that I'm aware of). I recommend it

I've used Avast for about a year. I have it on manual updates as i like to be in control, can't have no updating going on when i am gaming. Good prog, easy to set up & instal & configure. Same as Dave as far as i am aware it hasn't missed anything & considering how sensitive i am to gaming/system performance i am pretty sure it hasn't let anything in. I do run ad-aware & S&D daily aswell.
Best of all Avast is completely Free

Don't really want to start this argument again, but going what i've heard before you've got a pretty fast internet (faster than my 2mb anyway), my last NOD32 update was within the kb range, and took literally seconds to download. Now i know i can set it to manual, but surely with an internet like yours an AV updating isn't really going to affect anything, i mean according to benchmarks or whatever it may show a 3 nanosecond difference, but real world performance as in actually missing a shot or lagging surely isn't going to happen? Unless your getting up to date on a few months worth of definitions (like when i install NOD its more like a 60mb download!).

Excuse me if i'm wrong though...

Me too, and i dunno about you, when i am watching something in WMP it updates like a mofo ! the little bubble constantly popping up.

If you leave the PC alone a while it does that. Just click the X on the bubble until they're all gone.

Incidentally, I've had a sales rep call me from AVG asking if I could exclusively sell AVG with commision.. I'm not sure that's a good idea tbh.
