Creating .PDFs using Acrobat..

I need to create .PDF fiiles for invoicing. I can't assume when emailing clients that they have word, for example..

So I checked out the price of Acrobat Standard which is a staggering £250!!! I'll only be using it to create simple PDF files. Surley, there is a cheaper version for occasional use?

Used it many times, does the job great. Office 2007 also now has PDF support, catching up with open office which has had it for some time as Belmit says.

PDF, while created by Adobe is actually an open standard, there are several free tools on the web for converting/creating documents.

Alternatively, Open Office's Writer (Word equivalent) lets you export to pdf. There's loads of free standalone software available that will also do it.

Edit: The one I appear to have installed is called PrimoPDF, not used it in ages though!

Cheers guys.. So what is the benefit of using Acrobat when PDF is an open standard?

Additional features that aren't open - mostly around document security.

Acrobat can do LOTS of stuff. Sign off documents, edit them, add stuff, all sorts. For the average user there's not much point. But if you use the advanced features then there's a lot more there. Especially handy for a printer

CutePDF rocks and will do pretty much anything you'll need to do.

I hate PDFs.

One of my least favourite job tickets:

'Can you please un-pdf this document?'

No ffs thats why its a PDF in the first sodding place!!!

(Of course I can, but I don't tell em that

)
