Another Mobile thread
I think my post in another thread got lost so I thought I'd start my own. Here's my question:
My contract is due for renewal shortly and I'm going to get a free upgrade since I'm a long standing high value customer. I'm not swapping from Orange as I pay very little and get a lot - I've checked and there are not really any deals out there that compete to make me want to change. Besides I'm happy with Orange - been with them for 8 years without any issues. I've got an SPV (c600) which I've loved (I've had it and the c500) over the past 2/3 years. It's great, I can install apps on it, store files and notes on it, and most importantly I can synchronise with Outlook (other PIMs too, but for the moment Outlook is the testbed). As an additional it's great as I've currently got over 1000 texts in my inbox. It's quite fast, has lots of storage, the camera is good enough for little snaps (I'm NOT interested in a great camera as I have a digital, however it's handy for a quick snap for MMS'ing). Now here's the dilema, I'm quite happy with a smartphone as I'm used to it, but I wonder whether or not I should try something else? My requirements are that it can support 3G (though not bothered about video calling or anything like that) on a good HTML based browser. It can synch with Outlook. Has a lot of storage, and has the potential of installing apps on it. A camera is not essential. It has to be quick, and functional and have a decent sized screen. Decent talk/stand by time would be great. I'd be happy to go back to Sony Ericsson or go back to a Nokia, however I don't really like LG, Motorola or Samsung. There are the other smartphones out there with orange such as the M700 or the M3100 (though it's a bit big and not sure if I need something that big). However I've seen phones such as the W880i which does seem quite cool small and funky, big screen, small size etc. It's got the walkman thing which I think is a bit of a gimick and something I doubt I'd use as I have an ipod - but does it fulfil all my needs? Anything else you can suggest? Or is there anything that might fulfill my needs that I've missed?

Haven't used the browser a huge amoung (despite having 5MB of data free each month) but it's pretty quick when I have used it 3G signal is usually nice and strong. SE sync software is very nice (better than activesync as if it finds a difference then it asks you rather than deciding which file to delete all on its own) and it works nicely for files and stuff as well. The camera, despite being only 2MP, is pretty good and I've managed to get some nice snaps whilst I've been out and about. Always listen to music when I'm on the move so love the option to have it on my phone rather than carry something else (even bought some fancy new bluetooth headphones t'other day, will post about them when they turn up...), but if you're not going to use it for that then the 1GB memory card it comes with is nice and handy if you want to carry stuff around with you Charge usually lasts 3-4 days, but then again I don't make that many calls so this is just based on listening to music for 2 hours a day, sending some txt messages and the phone staying on... You're welcome to drop round and have a play with the sexy-phone-goodness if you like to see if you like it (and bring my dvd back )

I've got the W880i as well and can only really echo what the dude says, it is a great phone overall. I'm not hugely bothered about the fact the camera isn't as good as the K800i it replaced, the fact that it is so much smaller and neater more than compensates. The battery is remarkably good, I quite often listen to a few hours worth of music while walking around and it does easily last 3-4 days since I text more than I call. M2 cards are pretty cheap now, a 2gb one cost me around £20.

I'd be really keen to hear what you think the browser's like
I've had a quick play on one and the meny system seems quick as does the interface and phone in general. As I said the camera's not of huge concern to me Hmm seems tempting. As much as I love my smartphone I don't really want to increase in size, and being able to synch with PIMs as well as having 3g is important enough for me to look past a smartphone as they tend to be too big and slow now.

Got to admit I don't use it but I've had a play around for the past few minutes since you asked and it seems easy enough to use. Obviously not comparable to a PC or even a PDA type phone but it doesn't require too much scrolling, it is very intuitive and pretty quick as well. I just tend not to use it because I never have anything so vital that I need internet access that second, I can almost always wait until I get to a PC.

Argh - just seen Daz's thread on the HTC touch which is also available to me... looks cooooool. I was tempted by it already but lack of 3G put me off.... however it does seem funky.

With my w810i I use Opera mini as my browser which works a treat and is a lot nicer than the included software. Would have thought it'd work on the w880i fine.

M700 has GPS? Are you sure about that? If so, that's something else I didn't know.
