Burning an ISO and making it Bootable?
Right, i need some kinda idiots guide - a fool proof guide to how you take an ISO, and then come out the other end with a bootable disk.
I've had so many disks become coasters because the images i've written simply wont pick up during boot - i'd just love to see 'press any key to boot cd-rom' whilst this thing boots... i've got so many apps to burn and play with images; nero, iso buster, magic iso, power iso...etc any tips? also if my MBR is buggered (it tries to load a vista parition by default that is now broken and partitioned into nothingness) whats the easy way to fix it? |

Get a utility that can burn ISO images (this does not mean adding the file to a CD/DVD project and burning that - you'll then just have an ISO file on your CD/DVD). Burn the ISO image. Done.
The information to make a CD/DVD bootable is stored in the ISO file. If that information isn't there, then there's probably a good reason. Both Nero and Roxio software can do this job, and there are several others available too. Last edited by Mark; 17-10-2007 at 20:41. |

And yeah, booting the XP recovery console and running fixmbr should help with the booting problem. Assuming it's not the boot.ini file that's causing the problem of course.
