Cyrillic alphabet

How easy is it to learn? Any good references? I might need a crash course.

Cyrillic is reasonably easy to learn. The huge advantage of it is its phonetic..

Sadly its been about 8 or so years since I last had any exposure to it and I've forgotten it all

I used to be able to read cyrillic sentences out loud.

I think the best way to learn it is to expose yourself to it with no reference to the roman alphabet. The problem with learning a language which uses another alphabet is the association and linking that people try and do between both languages - transliteration if you will. So you have to try and learn it as a separate entity altogether - which isn't easy. I studied arabic for a few years and once I immersed myself in it and de-associated it with our alphabet it made life a lot easier, however bear in mind that i have been lucky to have had a greek upbringing too which maybe made it easier.

I'm really curious though I have to ask - how come?! Sound fun and exciting and intriguing!

Not trying to learn the language - just the alphabet. Might give me a standing chance of matching signs in cyrillic to roman equivalents. A tip I picked up while reading info on Bulgaria.

This seems to be the 'standard' for transliteration, so I'll go with this: http://www.eki.ee/wgrs/rom1_bg.htm

If transliteration is what you're after, there is always a standard - I believe they have more characters than ours. Good luck with it

I never knew the squirrel had his own alphabet. Hell, I never knew squirrels spoke. I just thought they twitched their noses and make noises that sound like "nom".
