NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
It's the only place you can get peace and quiet!!! (Except the underground) Oh, and way to go for allowing and enabling a remote detonation device onboard planes :/

Business people will argue that the service is essential for their businesses. I would say to them the same as I would love to say to the people who speak on their phone until the last second at boarding and have the damn thing swiched on before the plane has even stopped moving.
"IF YOUR BUSINESS CAN'T SURVIVE FOR 2 HOURS WITHOUT YOUR INTERVENTION WHILE YOU TAKE A FLIGHT, YOU EITHER NEED TO SACK SOME PEOPLE OR TRAIN THEM BETTER."

It's not the business people I'm worried about, though they're bad enough. It's the idiots who just can't put their phones away. I was sat on a table next to six of them in a restaurant at the weekend. Texting eachother, playing audio/video clips as loud as possible, then sending the clips to eachother via bluetooth so the recipient could play them too. In the end I swear they were doing it for no other reason than to annoy the hell out of everyone around them. Even the bar stuff suggested dunking their phones in the nearest glass of beer to shut them up.
PS - this was all adults. The one child they had with them was actually turning the phones off, only for the adults to turn them back on again. |

That sucks. Whilst a mobile phone doesn't have the power to change any instruments (I've seen it done using a huge booster thingy) they are annoying *AND* you can hear them on your headset. My old instructor used to leave his on, every few minutes the radio coming into the headset would get distorted.

It'll be hideously expensive initially anyway, it doesn't bother me that much as people chat on the plane anyway. Besides I tend to fall asleep within seconds of sitting down, plus I have my music, book or whatever to keep me busy. It's not as if planes are quiet places either. I have to say it doesn't really bother me.

The experiment I saw involved a mobile phone and some sort of signal booster. They sat and upped the power until it finally changed the CDI. The power it took was massively above the normal max of a phone before it interrupted the signal, and this was on a low-cost light aircraft. I can't imagine a large airliner would be more at risk. I don't think the experiment checked everything though (transponder, for instance). I'd be interested to see the complete details of the tests the CAA did, and the exact results.

Phone will not really interfere - I mean, do the phone signals magically stop at the border of the airport? Or do they get diverted around the plane? No! Millions of microwaves bombard the fuselage of the plane - so it's going to make little difference really. Oh and that excuse they use "because we're refuelling" really gets my goat :/
