Default Hooge HDD's

I'm looking for a subtle combination of cost vs reliability for ~1tb HDD's (sata). Anyone got any suggestions? Speed and noise isn't a big issue.

Anyone know anything about these: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=723884

TY!

Personally I always got for Maxtors. Some people have said they're getting overtaken (possibly by WD) but I've got never lost one before even with the PSU went bang.

Of course, you're looking at 30% more over the Samsung there...

If I were buying a hard drive now, i'd be getting a Samsung or a WD.

Maxtor have gone down the drain from their old rep imo.

Seagate bought Maxtor some time back now I thought..? Maxtor have a pretty terrible reputation, second only to the Hitachi Deathstars. I'd go for a Sammy, a Seagate or a WD drive every time.

I used to be a big WD fan until I discovered how quiet Samsung Spinpoints are - I use them almost exclusively now

Thanks peeps Ok, so no negatives for Samsung, a couple of negatives for maxtor (and a positive), and a positive or 2 for WD.

Losts of good reviews for the samsungs on the net and they're cheapest too. Think we have a winner

One of the two Samsungs I got at the back end of last year is showing a few bad sectors already, which is worrying, but I'm not going to worry over it. Over the years I've had one two-week-old WD die completely (head motor failed), a few Seagates die, several Maxtors either die or get unreliable, and even a dead Deathstar. Save the WD and one of the Maxtors which died without warning, they've all given warning of impending doom.

I agree with the above - Samsung for quietness and WD for speed. Quality-wise you can get a dud whichever brand you choose.
