Never listened to the Archers so I'm not familiar with the lady's work.

One thing that really annoys me about the BBC and many other media companies and publications, is referring to the deceased by their last name only.

Where I come from, this practice is reserved for convicted criminals and is considered disrespectful when used to refer to others - especially the deceased. She should be referred to as Miss/Ms/Mrs Boyd or, more formally, the late Miss/Ms/Mrs Boyd. The article even refers to the show's editor as "Ms Whitburn", why show respect for the living and not the dead?

Sorry about the rant. I'm sorry the lady has died. Was she an integral part of the show, or was she just an occasional character?

She used to be a fairly major character but was retired to a nursing home about 5 years ago and hasn't appeared much since. It's a shame to hear of this happening and I wonder if she'll get a nod on the show in the future as has happened before when actors who have been semi-pensioned off have curled up their tootsies.
