Got Amp?
Just snapped up a Denon AV10SE amp to replace my old Philips system. The old one has started doing odd things like losing the dolby sync which requires the amp to be unplugged and plugged back in.
Yes this bigger than the old amp and digital tuner combined Very very good sound from this and I haven't set this up properly yet. Currently the old amp is running. This new one is something like 22 or 25kg Don't worry about the ventilation for the moment, was just used to test while I wait for my new speakers for the office to go with it. Will be a proper floorstanding system...... can I fit it in? Erm, it'll be cosy to get the layout correct but it'll be done Just found out that the guy is also selling an Audiolab 8000A (B model as well). |

I'm going to need a new amp in the not too distant future. I've been getting some crackling from the rear speakers and thought it was either cabling or a speaker problem but having looked into it, it's the amp at fault.
Oh well, it'll be an opportunity to get an HDMI AV receiver to solve some of my cabling and input problems. |

Marantz KI stuff isn't popular with me at the moment - my CD6000KI has hurrendous noise when I use the analogue outputs but it's fine using digital so that makes me think that the DAC (ie, the main component that differs from the standard CD6000) is buggered.

Sounds similar to another problem of the Philips that I had forgotten about. There is a real difference in quality between using analogue and digital inputs. I do think it knows that its time is coming as its now been behaving itself.
I did think about an HDMI amp but the price for a good one put me off. Eventually the Denon will go downstairs in the main system (and swapped with the Sony), but at the moment where it would go does not have enough ventilation. On the ever growing list is a good cd player as well. |

I'm fighting the urge to treat myself to a shiny new Cyrus CD player. A friend of mine has one along with a couple of the nice power supplies and the sound is absolutely superb.

Mondo, I really wish we lived closer. Replacing a balance control is a 30 minute job (for me) that I could do asleep...
