I'm sure most of you have heard of these guys, sending out letters accusing people of sharing games they've sometimes never even heard of before and demanding the best part of a grand to not take you to court.

Well, up until now, they'd never actually taken anyone to court over it.

They've won a case now, against a woman.

Quote:
A British woman who put a game on a file-sharing network has been ordered to pay damages to the game's creator.

Topware Interactive has won more than £16,000 following legal action against the woman who shared a copy of Dream Pinball 3D.

Three other suspected sharers of the game are awaiting damages hearings.

The test case against the unnamed woman from London could see thousands of other Britons suspected of sharing the game in court.

Just thought some of you may be interested in reading about it.

I'm not sure what I'd be more ashamed of; getting caught uploading pirated games to other users and becoming a public benchmark for prosecution, or people finding out that game was Dream Pinball 3D.

That'll just give them more ammunition to go after others with their dodgy tactics. They came here because the same tactics got laughed out of court overseas. Such a pity.

Still, if she did share the game, even if it was Dream Pinball 3D. Yet another reason not to use Torrents.

Well, you say that, but she got caught sharing off a 'P2P app', not torrents (i know torrents are P2P but you know what I mean ) but the same principles could apply, yeah.

*goes to find out about newsgroups*

It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
