Home Theatre for parents, help!
Right so i've finally been tasked with getting my parents house set up right.
The only thing they'll be keeping is the 32" Panasonic (CRT! ) TV, but it's being moved to our second living room. I need ease of use top of the list really, then quality, but at a very good price. So i've never really done any decent reading around the Home Cinema Hifi market to pretend i know exactly what i'm talking about so i wouldn't mind a nudge in the right direction, or some friendly advice. What i (think) i need but correct me if i'm wrong here: HD Ready LCD TV Around 32" (1080p would be nice but were on a strict budget i'll get to further down). Two Stereo AV Amps DVD Player CD Player (can these be integrated i assume? remember ease of use ) FM Tuner Stereo Speakers, i've already got one pair with what we have but i kinda plan to replace these unless we really can't afford and they'll go with the second living room stuff. Possibly a freeview PVR, but i might be convincing my dad just to pay the extra a month for a second virgin box, and/or get one V+. Other inputs for a media centre PC, and native iPod dock if possible little things that keep my mum happy. Universal remote to keep everything to one, or maybe two if you include virgin remote(s). Right so i need to doubt up everything apart from the TV and keep it all as similar as possible, and.... heres the kicker, i'm trying to keep it around 1k. I'm obviously going to be buying second hand at every opportunity. This is where its a pain because i don't really know what i'm looking for and reviews generally tend to focus on whats out right now, new, and whats coming soon, which is all too expensive I was hoping a quick breakdown before i've really done any proper research into what i need, what i can get second hand, and what prices thing fetch would look like this: TV: £250 - 300 Amps: (£150 each): £300 DVD/CD players: £200-300 Speakers:£100-150 a pair Universal remote: £25-50 each (?) So jigging round those prices i can generally come out around £1k by giving and taking. But have i got my figures right there? As it stands i've pretty much plucked them out fresh air and i'm off to hit the web for some research hopefully.... Any input (hoping a few of you turn up here) much appriciated //Edit: Oh one last thing, should i be checking eBay, or AV forums, or both? I find the AV forums pretty heavy going not knowing half the stuff that gets passed back and fourth there... //Edit2: And for clarification by amp i essentially meant AV Receiver Last edited by LeperousDust; 02-09-2008 at 21:58. |
