Default London's Olympic Park Toilets face away from Mecca

Quote:
Toilet facilities are being built at London's Olympic Park so Muslims will not have to face Mecca while sitting on the loo.

The Olympic Delivery Authority has said it wants to produce an ideal venue for people of all cultures, faiths, ages and abilities for the 2012 Games and beyond.

The Islamic religion prohibits Muslims from facing the Kiblah - the direction of prayer - when they visit the lavatory.

Someone should start an e-petition.

Maybe you could try harder and find some words to explain why this is such an outrage, as I don't really get it. From the article you linked it says only a percentage will not face Mecca, and I have to wonder how many of those will be due to the natural design of the toilets anyway.
That some toilets don't face a particular way seems to be an easy request to accommodate, especially as the buildings aren't even up yet.

No, no, NO. DOnt you get it?

This is yet another example of the creeping islamification of britain.

Today we're re-orienting toilets, tomorrow we'll be nuking israel, stoning gays, and making women dress like ninjas as sure as night follows day. FACT.

*looks to CBS for approval and validation*

I didn't even look at the link... some of the things that are reported about in the papers these days are so ****ing pointless.

It was my first reaction!

If you think it's a problem, you'd best check your own toilets. Who knows what direction they point in.

Guess it must be a no news day if that's the best they can come up with.

Can someone explain why this is so terrible? A 'percentage of general toilets would not face Mecca', sounds reasonable to me.

I think it's bloody fantastic that we are showing respect for other religions and cultures.

I would think that its a good idea to think of these things before the building stage, at this point it won't cost any thing to make an adjustmet which make a proportion of the population more comfortable just like putting in ramps and changing rooms for people who need them. If they were reporting that they were spending £10000s changing existing facilities (like they had to do at a prison in the article) I might be more outraged but making arangements before the fact is IMHO sensible.
