Default My Ring.... *fnar*

As peoples know I went and saw Status Quo last night and during the hour and a half/2hour concert I was clapping and dancing and air guitaring etc.

By the encore I thought "hmmm my finger REALLY hurts" but ignored it as everything was too exciting.

Wandering out though, I notice my fingers a bit reddish and then realise my engagement ring is warped. Manage to yank it off but there's no way I can get it back on.

It's not a particularly thin ring and I thought platinum was really strong... could hardcore clapping and heat make it warp that easily??? Am I going to have to be more lady like in future or just remove it when I go to concerts?

Bit concerned this has happened Hoping Picky didn't get conned or anything when he bought it and it's not actually platinum (although it does look like platinum and feels that way - is heavy in comparison to gold).

Boo.

Will be taking it to a jewelers to ask them me thinks

I was always under the impression that platinum was even 'softer' than gold, rather than stronger.

Platinum is quite a soft metal and is pretty ductile. The more Platinum there is in the ring the softer it'll be but I'd be surprised if body heat and clapping could warp it.

Ah boo.

It's not like I'm a big bulky bearded man clapping like thunderstorms

I was convinced it was stronger than gold... my bad.

Still, I am sure the jewelers will fixo it and what In foochure I will just have to go to concerts as a singleton and take it off!

Its PT950 - not sure what the 5% other material is though. So high platinum = softer ring. I'm confused cos shes put it through harder things than hand clapping before with no ill effects...
Still - she is an odd ball! Maybe she radiated some weird energy that caused it to warp...

My white gold ring somehow "melted" on the bottom when I was in Cyprus in July. I was wearing it during the day, and now the bottom of it has gone flat.

Nice to know im not the only one with this issue!

Popped into the jewelers in town and spoke to a nice chap. He was very shocked at how contorted it had become and said it didn't seem right.

Checked over the ring itself and exclaimed it certainly looked like platinum... but it didn't have a royal stamp on it of sorts..

Erk.

He's advised taking it back into the original jewelers and either getting a refund and new ring or asking them to fix it and have it stamped at no expense to us. Thing is - he's concerned reshaping it back will weaken the stones clasps.

Bum.

So for now... my hand remains single

Anyone got a spare haribo ring kicking around as I'm feeling uber nekkid!

That's not good. Fingers crossed that was a genuine mistake and you've not been had. The jeweller is right though - there should have been a platinum hallmark on the ring. Everything else crossed you can get it sorted.

Mines got a hallmark on it, (well its got lots of funny symbols etc,) its still not stopped it going flat on the bottom.
