Close, i've seen 3.8

Infact i've just wondered over to xtremesystems and the speeds are just getting silly. I may hang on for a little while longer and upgrade my entire rig.

me too.. I normal upgrade my CPU and Mobo every two yearsso i'm not really due a new one utill Oct.. I'm sure by then they'll be a new generation of processors to choose from, and maybe Quad cores might be mainstream. I've heard also there are new cores on the way with higher default FSB which requires DDR3.. It all changes a lot faster than what it used to.

I think it's important to have your own upgrade road map.. or you can and up paying a lot of money for nothing really.

I've had my E6600 to 3.6 GHz but the voltage was a bit silly. It runs 24/7 at 3.24 GHz running 2 Folding SMP clients with no problems.

Native quad core should be out in the next few months. I'm waiting for that before I go the quad core route.

Did you run 3D Mark06 Paul? I'm curious to see how it compares to my crossfired X1900XTs. If it's close, I may replace them with one of these.

I have mine at 2.8 - mainly because I like to keep temps at 40c - and I don't like my PC to be uber noisey.

For reference - I get the following:

12k 2006
17k 2005 (maybe more)
32k 2003

How on earth did you get 12k on 2006 with a 2.8Ghz machine?

I get 10,500 in 3D Mark06 with my E6600 at 3.24 GHz and slightly overclocked X1900XTs in crossfire.

Just as comparison I get 5169 in 3d06
sm 2 = 2488
sm 3 = 2847
cpu = 909

Thats with a x1900xtx 740 core 820 mem (still has more)
I had to reset my bios meaning my opteron is back to 2.3ghz I now have to play the oc game again to get it back upto 3ghz. Being at 2.3 is hurting my scores badly, it is the bottleneck in the system.

edit: watch this space 2.4ghz
5253 3d06
2492
2860
948
