No way I'm doing anything with my CPU - heatsinks scare me.

I do know my system fans are far from their maximum speed though, so there's headroom.

I'd reseat the CPU if I were you, making sure you use the correct amount of AS5 - too much can be as detrimental as too little

Oh sorry I may have mislead things. The 49oc is the system.. The CPU is running at around 40oc with both cores on full load.

System temp higher than CPU temp sounds like there's some dodgy readings from whatever monitoring software you're using. Either that, or there's a problem with the sensor.
