New hardware = fresh install?
My PC stuff has arrived today, and my desire to install it all asap is tempered by the fact I can't be arsed formatting everything, backing everything up, then re-installing everything (obviously not in that order). Do you always do a fresh install for a major upgrade (mobo, CPU etc) or do you every just do an install of the new drivers and carry on as usual?

Yes.
Chances are the old copy of the OS won't even boot, especially if you're changing chipsets and CPU types. Always far better to do a complete clean installation so you don't have any of the old crap left behind.

Fresh install. It's possible to get away with it, but in practise it's a lot of hassle and might leave you with problems anyway.
Besides, new hardware deserves a nice clean OS

That's what I've always done before, I just wanted to be lazy this time. Oh well, back everything up tonight, install everything tomorrow. I'll be too busy playing SoR2 to do it all tonight

Anything else except the mobo, you could get away with but such a radical change needs a new install - have fun
