Default College dress code

Just started college today, the finance school has moved to new premises, and they have a dress code for all staff and students - 'business wear'.

Even my work doesn't have a dress code!

We have been told to write and complain if we object. Anyone else think a dress code in a college is a bit dumb?

6th form has a dress code ?

Never been to an academic establishment that required a dress code for regular classes except on the LPC practical exam days in mock courts and interviews.

I suppose for women its a lot more flexible? just some black trousers with a plain top usually works.

I know of a few 6th forms that had a dresscode, not that they were strictly adhered to.

I'm sure if they get enough complaints then something will get done.

get writting then.

i can understand if they're wanting to set you up for how it's going to be in a workplace.

then again, my school went crazy "security conscious" on us and in 6th year we all had to wear school unifrom, it was outstanding.

Its a college btw not a 6th form - I know of a few 6th forms with dress codes.

They can't be wanting to set usup for a workplace environment as most of us are in full time employment anyway - this is what I am going to put in my letter. We all know what to wear in different environments anyway as we are responsible adults, and a learning environment is usually casual. The specialist finance school I went to last year had no dress code so why should a college?

Fair enough, yeah for women it is just trousers and a top but why wear work clothes on your 'day off'

Oooh they are going to get such a letter!!!

Yeah was gonna say i've not heard of any colleges that require any form of dress code. My 6th form was nuts though with its uniform though, didn't really bother me too much though, you don't have to worry about what you're gonna wear

I assume the college might be doing this to stop the hoodie/huge ass jeans/metal/rocker people whatever the ass theyre called nowdays looking totally unsightly and out of place because of their teenage angst?

When I was at school in 6th form we all had to wear school uniform - tbh I preferred it.

As for college (is that the same as uni?) it seems daft to have a uniform unless they are trying to achieve something which they have clearly defined it seems a little silly. Though in a way it's nice to have people being well dressed at academic environments.

Never heard of a dress code at college tbh

And Will, college isn't the same as Uni. It's a 6th form that's not part of a particular school. Generally treated like Uni though!
