Default Huddy's House Changes - Progression.

Firstly, sorry for the poor quality of pics..

Secondly, not all the work I'm doing haha

Ok, we have been planning on changing our kitchen, dining and living room area for sometime because the existing layout is quite poor. Actually, we have been planning these changes since last May 2006. So finally, it's good to get going.

The chnages the kitchen, dining and living room areas.

The whole area is quite large yet it looks out of proportion. The lounge for example has a box in the corner which is our kitchen and there is a niche where the garage ends. This means that the living room and dining area are in an “L” shape (below):

Because of the size and its openess, it can get quite cold in the lounge. We also have quite a bit of wasted and unused space which can be put to better use. The niche I mentioned above is one particular area (screen below in front of rad) which is under the stairs. The rest of the under-stiars are all cupboards so these cupboards can be extended into this niche creating extra storage space which at the moment, is quite limited.

THe door you see above is going to come forward, level with the wall in the foreground.

The real problem is the kitchen and dinning area. Both are limited in space.. and to get to the kitchen you have to go around the dinning room table. So the idea here is to combine the the kitchen and dinning room creating a long kitchen dinner. This means we can have an area away from the living area. Since it becomes one long room, we can lay easy to clean floor tiles so that Daniel can through his mushy peas where he likes We can do this by removing this wall and creating a partition between this area and the longe.

We also have hardly any kitchen work surface area yet again, this is because the layout is poor. However, by moving the kitchen door to the dining room area, and replacing the door space with a window, we can use the whole space underneath...

So the objective here is to:

1. Shut the lounge area off completely.
2. to increase the size of the kitchen area by combining it with the dining area.
3. Creat more space
4. more storage space.
5. create a longer surface area in kitchen

Ok, where's my hammer !

After first day:

The back door has been removed and bricked up allowing a space for the new window. The window in the dining room has also been removed and the wall cut to allow the door to be placed in its place. A new window will be fitted to the side.

Back into the lounge area, and the partition has been constructed which will seperate the kitchen/diner from the lounge..

Access to the kitchen is now via a new door way from the hallway.

The wall behind where the old radiator has been knocked through to the cupboard behind. This will form the basis of one large cupboard. The rad pipes you see will be re-routed to the back wall and into the lounger and will feed a new rad...

The kitchen ceiling at this point has also been removed although I forgot to take a picture of that

Right.. the old pine cladding has been removed from the ceiling and replaced with plaster board.. Gone too are the four spotlights that were set into the ceiling. These used to keep blowing so I'm replacing these with a central lower voltage unit from B&Q.

Ok, boring I know .. tis is the new cupboard under the stairs taking shape.. We've had to take out everything from the existing cupboard and place it everywhere around the house.. You can clearly see where the wall was by the mark left behind (behind hoover thing). The has the awkward alcove in the lounge. You can so see the rad pip leading from the garage. This will now be fed into the lounge.

To the right, you can see the new door way into the lounge..

So into the lounge, in the new walls are in place. No the room looks like a room without a kitchen and garage protruding into it..

I was hoping to keep the coving from the dinning room area and place this one the new walls here.. but it seems that this may not be possible so the onimental coving may have to go.

next thing is to get the new door and windows in.. There's a delay on the window which isn't good really as it's just turned cold. Brrrrr
