The argument against the inclusion of Media Player in European software was that it was uncompetitive towards companies Like RealPlayer and the like, rather than (in name anyway) because Microsoft had a monopoly on the market. How is that different from Apple including media software with their OS, or any other OS?

*shrug* anyway, it was just a random thought

It isn't, but I suspect the whole media player thing was a front, much as a multitude of EU commissioners might express a view to the contrary. Can. Open. Worms. Everywhere.

Microsoft were forced to create an 'N' version to placate the EU commissioners - not that it stopped them clouting MS with a huge fine as well mostly because they didn't provide the entire, fully documented source code for Windows, written in blood and hand-delivered by Bill Gates himself, on demand (or at least that's what it seemed like they wanted).

Of course, no-one actually wants this braindamaged software. Well, why would they?

The second most popular operating system on home computers is a minority thing now? I can think of a dozen smaller ones that could be hurt by Apple's anti-competitive tactics.

Personally I think that both companies should be allowed to include whatever they want with the OS. What's next? No Notepad because people might not want that as a text editor?

Please don't give the EU commissioners ideas. They'll take you seriously.

PS - I was using minority in the strict sense.

Why would anyone want to use anything but vim or emacs?

Old thread I know but I've been trying to exactly this to get my head around OSX AD integration but I've had no end of problems.

Feek, you got any decent guides?
