Wanted: Reliable wireless ADSL router/modem

Well, my old speedtouch modem/router and unnamed white box wireless router have both died - the speedtouch, errr... melted....

The unnamed white box wireless router pissed me off so was subjected to 'percussive maintenance' with a hammer.

So, currently running a Belkin cheap as crap thing. And my, is it crap. Wireless connection dropping every 20 minutes, randomly kills the lan connections and doesn't even have a usefull interface.

Any recommendations that I can pick up from PC World or Staples or somewhere like that that will work?

Needs: ADSL Modem, 4 LAN ports would be great, B+G Mixed mode wireless

Doesn't need: Belkin on the box...

I always used Zyxels before i got my cisco, the most recent being a 660HW which was pretty faultless apart from it's perfomance with torrents. They seem to be pretty solid and the recent ones have much better interfaces. We use them at some of the companies that we support at work.

Netgear 834G. I probably should pimp Linksys stuff but loads of people I know use the 834 and it works well.

i bought one not so long ago.... didnae work with vista, at all, had to route the vista machine through a shared internet connection on the laptop. so it got promptly binned. this has left me with a bad taste when it comes to them.

Eh? How can it not work with Vista? Shouldnt matter what OS is behind it.

I've set up many Netgear 834G's and never had a problem until recently...

It seems to kick my mac off of the wireless as soon as any one else connects and then wont let me reconnect till I reboot the router. I think this may be a simple password problem as I never had this trouble last year.

Due to that I'll still recommend it as thats 1 out of 7 that have had problems.

Had a couple of 834's and dont have any complaints. The 2 Linksys I've had have also been well behaved, though they feel a bit limited feature wise (at least 1 wouldn't let me set DHCP reservations, something I consider to a very basic thing :/). Cant recommend Draytek highly enough but I doubt you'll find a 2800 on the shelves.

Been offered a Netgear DG834N Rangemax Next 270mbps for £50.... worth it?

You'll not get above 54g speeds without upgrading the rest of your network. Price seems OK but you could probably get an 834G cheaper.
