I'm finding it difficult to choose between Bioshock and The Orange Box, but will save my decision until I've played COD4.
If Portal were a full-size game a la Half Life 2 it would probably win hands down. Hopefully we'll see more of it when Episode 3 is released.

I'm afraid for me the story line in HL2 just wasn't as engaging as it was in the first

I agree, much preferred the original. I just meant that if Portal was a proper game with a plot, of the type and length that HL2 is it would have been amazing.

I'm calling it a suprise because it suprised me. I haven't felt this engrossed in a game for ages.

I haven't played nearly as many games as I wanted to this year and haven't actually finished any of the newer releases so it's difficult to pick a winner. Of the games I started and haven't got round to finshing yet, it would be a toss up between Halo 2 (PC version) and Bioshock. They both have many good points but Bioshock is different enough from the beginning to get my attention - therefore the winner by TKO is Bioshock
I've also enjoyed playing some older games in between as well, including HL2, Unreal II, UT2004, Painkiller and many others. Talking of Unreal Tournament, I'm jolly pissed off. I got an e-mail from HMV on Friday to tell me my copy of UT3 was on it's way - fat lot of ****ing good that is to me now. If they'd sent it when it was first released (which is what one expects when one pre-orders 3 months in advance) and not 3 weeks later, I would have been able to play it some, now I have to wait until I get home. HMV, you suck

If I'd known it was going to be so late I'd have sourced it elsewhere but in my naïveté, I thought they might actually send it on the release date - what a sucker. Well, they can kiss goodbye to any more business from me (after I've spent my game card points, that is ).
