Default It's a small world.....

Just went to Domino's to go pick up dinner and the lass behind the counter is from Cambridge!! (or at least near enough according to her)

I heard the accent (a few seconds of it anyways) and got it entirely wrong. Luckily she wasn't too insulted when I asked her what part of Australia she was form. Then when she spoke a bit more I realised how far off I was and got it relatively close when I said she sounded like she was from somewhere around Luton and Northampton. So on second guess I wasn't too far off. She also gave me credit for not having been around any UK accents in 10 years and she's been over here for 5 years so lost a bit of her accent.

Anyways, just thought I'd share a little corner of your world I discovered in my little corner.....

It is odd when you meet people like that. We were in the Apple store in Valley Fair mall buying Kitten's new nano and the old man came over asking where we were from as he recognised our accents.

Turns out he'd actually moved back to the UK from California as was from Northumberland.

Got asked a couple of times if I was Australian when visiting my folks in Kentucky (not by them, in shops and stuff!). And in one clothes shop in the local mall there was a guy from Hampshire (UK) working there. Was odd to have travelled thousands of miles only to find someone who probably lived just a few miles from me back home working there.

The very first time I got on the rig in Egypt, I had my induction and got my room number. I went off to my room to dump my gear and when I got there, there was a huge bloke standing in the doorway. "Excuse me", I say and he turns around to see who it is.
Turns out it was a guy who was at school with my older brother and his folks owned a shop about 200 yards away from my folks house.
All the way to Egypt to work on an oil rig and you end up sharing a room with a bloke you knew years ago from the same town in Shetland

'tis a small world indeed Darrin.

We were getting on a flight back from Florida with my family, to find infront of us a family who used to live in the flat upstairs from my Mum when she was growing up.

Met the same people halfway down the M1 in a motorway services when we lived down south and they lived in Newcastle. We were going the oposite way to each other so that was a nice surprise.

Last year on the way back from Orlando, we were sitting on the plane for the internal part of the flight and I the bloke next to me was wearing a Leicester Tigers top. I started talking to him and it turned out he lives in the same village as me and I went to school with his daughter who also worked in the hairdressers my mum and sisters used to use. Very bizzare.

My brother (born in Chelmsford, same as me), lives in NJ> They bought a brand new house on a new development. The house over the road was bought by someone from Wickford! About 10 miles from Chelmsford...

And his missis went to uni with my sis-in-law (ok, so that's a bit more local!).

Oh, and the one friend I kept in contact with from uni moved to about 40 miles north of my brother...
