Default Riddle me this...

I currently run my dual 1280x1024 monitor system from a 512MB X1650 Pro...

However...

I have just been given a 256MB 7900 GT(I think)...

Considering I rarely play any games other than EVE (which runs in an 1152 window), which card is better?

I have noticed that with the X1650 then when I have a game on one monitor and a DVD on the other then some DVDs get juddering (which is annoying).

So should I stick with the ATI card or install the NVidia card?

Only you the enlightened members of BD can decide!

I have an X1650 Pro and it has never given me any hassle, even gaming at 1680x1050 with moderately high settings in a dual-monitor setup.

If you move to Linux, put the nVidia card in as they pwn ATI for drivers

Sorry...

Should have said....

I'll only be playing EVE whilst watching DVDs...

Currently EVE runs brilliantly no matter what I do (and the resolution I run it in is perfect for doing other stuff on the same monitor at the same time).

BUT!

The second monitor, where I watch my DVDs whilst playing EVE sometimes has judder issues, which is bad when trying to watch a DVD

In your educated opinion, will the 7900 be better at ensuring both monitors run properly and I can enjoy EVE goodness on one screen and DVD goodness on the other without the current poor performance I'm experiencing?

And DRZ... The resolution of my monitors doesn't go that high... And yes, I am happy with their current resolution at the moment

I'm an nVidia person, not because I know anything about it, purely that over the past 10 or so years I've had more problems with ATi than I have with nVidia.

Couple of comments I've found through searching the four corners...

Quote:
The performance of the X1650 XT is just what you would expect from a mainstream graphics card of this type. With the 7600 GT being on the market for so long without any competition from ATI, the X1650 XT was overdue. With the release of this card, we now see performance from ATI that is very similar to the popular 7600 GT.
I'm assuming the 7900 is faster than the 7600.

Quote:
The X1650 is probably the best match for a 7600, An X1950 Pro is the best match for a 7900GT.
Does that help?
