Default AV reciever

Rather than messing round with loads of switcher boxes, I'm wondering if it might be better to upgrade my AV reciever.

I need something with at least 2 HDMI sockets and component sockets along with at least 3 and ideally 4 optical ins.

Any recommendations?

This will be for a 360, Sky HD, PS3 and HTPC.

Is the one I have, I was going to get a Cambridge Audio one but the guy in store recommended the Sony instead as it would be better for what I want it to do, which is pretty much the same as you.

It's got 3 hdmi in sockets, about 5 component in, and I'm pretty sure it's 3 optical and a couple of coaxial in.

Cheers Wossi.

I popped into Richer Sounds today and that was exactly the one he recommended as well. As it was the last one in the shop, I got it for £40 off with a free optical cable!

Got it all set up and working fine

It took me a while to figure out how to stop the audio over hdmi as it was causing me no end of problems with my htpc. Didn't see the button on the actual unit to select source

Also found out yesterday that I only need 1 hdmi lead going into the tv as the 360 goes into the Sony via component and out to the tv via hdmi Time for a play with the wires this weekend again.

HAah! I've gone through the exact same process as you

I was messing round for ages trying to get it in Dolby Digital before figuring it out that it was sucking up the audio from the HDMI.

I was then similarly impressed when I figured it could convert from component and composite to HDMI. That means I've managed to get all 3 consoles and Sky HD all properly switching with the whole lot just going through 1 HDMI socket

The sound seems pretty decent as well. What speakers you got on it?

Mine are Mission something or others. About 4 years old now. Am tempted to upgrade :stir:

If you do, let me know what they are and how little you'd be selling them for

Just a set of 5.1 Jamo satellites. Considering they are in a smallish room, they are perfect for what is needed. When I move then I'll be getting some nice floorstanders.
