Knackered car - Gears related
Car was screwed this morning. It won't go into either reverse or 1st gear.
I've booked it into the garage tomorrow but got 2 questions 1) is it OK to start in second gear and pull into the garage (it's only about 200 meters away) 2) What the **** causes that? Any idea on cost? Luckily my flatmate is on holiday so I can nick his car for a few days __________________ |

It might just be linkages, which will be relatively cheap, or the actual gearbox might be ****ed, in which case, lube up.
As for starting in 2nd, if the engine is powerful enough to pull off in second, it's fine, though IIRC you have a Corsa, so whether it will I don't know

Either gear linkages or the clutch might be worn. First and reverse are usually the hardest to get it into when the clutch is at the extreme end of its adjustment. Might just need a new clutch cable.

Clutch/Clutch cable wouldn't be massively expensive, though it depends what you class as expensive I suppose

Whole new clutch might push that, depending where you get it done, doubt a cable would come that close.

Clutch cable will be about £15 for the part (depends on the car though) and they will probably charge you an hour labour on top at about £45 +vat
