I'm considering learning to do web design, including SSL - what would be the best way of going about this?

Where and what would be the best way to study?

depends on your best method of learning. Are you the sort of person who can work through a book or someone who learns by having a project/task to work on?

Either, although I find book based learning isn't as good as face to face

There's nothing to learn about SSL besides buying and installing a certificate that does what you want.

I'm self-taught (but only as far as what I needed at the time), but there's plenty of classes out there (evening classes at local college, OU, etc.) and books if you prefer to learn that way.

I tend to find learning as I go along and by trial and error works for me, but it does depend on the learning style that works for you. I just find having a project in mind gives me an aim as well as a way of combining various things together.

Either way http://www.w3schools.com/ is a very good resource to use in conjunction with whatever method you go for.

I did a free course on Dreamweaver and Photoshop which taught me pretty much everything I needed to know, then it was a matter of practice practice practice which I did by charging people to make their websites. They gave me an allowance towards my software so I must be one of the only people with a legit copy of Dreamweaver

I do too (it was part of a deal and is now ancient - I think it would still use tables for layout
