Default Duke Nukem 3D - XBLA

Hail to the King!

Quote:
Duke Nukem, the politically incorrect action hero and ultimate alien ass kicker, defends Earth and its babes from alien invasion in Duke Nukem 3D. This is the award winning game that helped define the FPS genre, introducing unparalleled interactivity, and a main character that spoke. Take the fight to the aliens across 39 levels featuring Hollywood, Los Angeles, a moon base, and alien spacecraft. Innovative items like the Jetpack, HoloDuke, Shrink Ray, or Pipe Bombs allow you to fight the aliens in any style you want. Defeat the aliens, so Duke can get back to some R&R with a stogie, a warm belly, and a bottle of Jack.
For those of you who don't know, Duke 3D was released on Xbox Live Arcade for the bargain price of 800 points yesterday (24th September). It's the same game we all love and remember from the PC when we all used to giggle at school because we were playing an 18 rated game.

Duke Nukem 3D - XBLA features;
  • Eight-player cooperative and DukeMatch multiplayer: Play ranked matches in one-on-one or free-for-all for leaderboard spots. A playlist of levels keeps the game fresh, with levels rotating on and off the list. Play co-op with your friends, earning single player achievements or completing the game entirely. It's your choice how to play. By reserving private slots you can play with your friends or with strangers in any combination. Invite away.
  • User clips: Every time you play a game, a user clip is recorded. View the clips any time in your theater or share with friends who own the game. Upload the clips to leaderboard spots if you complete a level in the fastest time, or if you have the highest score. Use these clips for tips on how to complete a level at speed.
  • Painless death: Review your play from the start of the level right up until your death, and jump back in at any point. Go back 10 seconds or 10 minutes, the choice is up to you. You can still save and load your game at any point if you prefer.
  • Gallery: Unlock achievements and Duke Nukem 3D concept art. Visit the Gallery at any time, view never before seen art, and learn more about the game.
  • Xbox 360 enhancements: The inimitable Duke Nukem returns in updated and improved form on Xbox 360®. The game now features controller vibration, bilinear filtering, motion blur, Xbox LIVE® Vision camera support for DukeMatch, multiplayer, and more.

First impressions are that it most definitely retains the charm that made it a classic, coupled with achievements it's definitely worth it, especially for only 800 points.

I cashed in a points card that I've had sitting around for months and bought this yesterday. I can't remember any of the levels from before so I had a fun time just before bed completing the first level

I had a quick raz on the trial yesterday. I thought I'd be rubbish because it's been so long but I remember where all the key cards were, and all the codes for the doors

Quite probably a purchase - I just love the lines Duke comes out with

It's weird, because the game, unlike say, Doom, doesn't feel dated or a game that you wish you'd not re-played and kept a fond memory. Maybe it's the pace of the game, or the fact that after all this time, it's still one of the funniest games around.

I was playing the Dukematch last night for a couple of hours. It's nothing special, but oddly enough, it was fun. I already have the 250 kills achievement.

I also fell short on points Malc, I had 470 points, so I bought another 500 points off eBay, cost me £3.50, so it's not too bad at all really. Could possibly be worth doing the same .

I hope they left the cinema scene (among plenty of others) in. Wouldn't be Duke without 'em.

I still own the game from first time around. Like all games (bar one) I never got anywhere near completing it though. Not that I didn't enjoy it.

There is a video playing on the cinema from when I played Duke Match, isn't it two girls making out?
