Default 360 dying

Looks like my 360 is on the way out, I just got a total graphics failure, no video at all but no red ring. From what I am reading this is not covered under the extended warranty and as I bought the 360 when Oblivion was released (early 2006) I'm a bit screwed

People recommend the towel trick and cracking it open and reseating the heat sink but my money says its just a temporary fix and it will happen again sooner or later.

I just tried it again and it seem to work so I'm tempted to go and trade it for an elite and just tell them I'm upgrading for HDMI etc.

Anyone got any idea on the trade value of an older unit?

according to CEX you'll get £76 from them but if you exchange £126. More info here

Turned it on to try and save the games and it snuffed it and won't come back

Off to town to buy an Elite, bah!

No red lights at all MB?

If you want a cheap fix then you can just buy an arcade (which now have HDMI ports) and whack your old drive onto it

Seriously considering this, I only really wanted the Elite because it was black but its a big premium to pay and I seldom use the HD at all for anything apart from saves, don't need HDMI as the amp doesn't do HDMI switching and I don't have a cable run for it anyway. Hmmmmm 20Gb should be enough to have one game stored to the HD under the new OS too. Damn and I wanted a black one too.

Do these new machine have a cooler CPU? I remember some talk of the chip being revamped at some point.

20Gb is enough MB as with clearing my stuff off I have over 10 gigs free for a game plenty

I've had my Arcade for a year now & it comes with the new 175w PSU & Falcon (I think) chipset & HDMI. I bought myself a 20GB HD of M&M slotted on & haven't looked back since. One thing to note is that apparently you can get a 20GB HD off Microsoft for 20 quid as a special deal because of the new update.

Unlucky
I'd pick up a new Arcade if I were you, that's what I did when my first one died at Christmas. I know what you mean about the Elites though, I wanted one then but just couldn't justify the cost.

The Arcades have the Falcon chipset now which in theory is more reliable but then again my 10 month old one died and was a Falcon From what I've read though, they are more reliable. Mine probably just gets used excessively
