Default Which Final Fantasy is best for a novice?

Out of Final Fantasy 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12. What would you say is the best RPG for a novice?
Trying to pick something for my Mum as she now likes that sort of thing after playing Dragon Quest. She's getting her own copy of it on Wednesday for her birthday, but want something to keep her occupied till then

I've played all of those FFs, I'm just not sure which would be best for a noob

9 or 10.

9 was by far the easiest for me, but 10 struck a nice balance and I think would be more approachable; it's very pretty and is actually voiced which would make a difference. 12 would be too complicated I reckon - at least in 10 you can blindly make your way around the standard grid and get somewhere stats wise.

Funnily enough those two were the ones I was thinking of too
Leaning towards 9 as 10's grid system might be a bit confusing for her. They've both got good tutorial systems though haven't they?

Obviously I want her to adore FF7 like me but I don't want to push her into it

FF7 is a big ask

9 does have named classes which might make things more obvious. The standard sphere grid in 10 will essentially make people into their respective classes just by the way the routes are, but it will be a harder concept to grasp.

I'd still consider 10 though. Sphere grid aside it has the much better story and characters you care more about - best of all the PS2 FF's imo.

I'll give her both and see which box looks most appealing to her

I've still hardly touched FF12

Me too

Doesn't feel like a FF game, I think it's the combat system.

Yeah it feels wrong Like a pseudo MMORPG but not as good.
I think the only reason why I feel bad about not playing it is loyalty to the series :/

10 is easily the best for beginners imo.

9 was largely easy but had a fairly hard final boss.

8 is the most difficult

7 had some rather difficult moments including a fairly hard final boss

12 just... isn't a final fantasy game for me. Poor story, non-existant character development and overall poor characters.

In 10, i can kill the final boss with one hit of Tidus' sword, easy as pie

Just cast autolife, doesn't matter what level you're at then, for some reason it constantly renews itself!

Wouldn't worry too much about final bosses, it may take a very long time for her to get there
