Two Lane Blacktop
Starring: James Taylor (the guitarist), Warren Oates. Typical 60's/70's road movie with two guys in a fast 1955 Chevy gasser driving from place to place street racing. James Taylor is the driver and his younger brother the mechanic. They take on a GTO in a long distance race and pick up hitch hikers along the way. Interesting fact is the '55 Chevy built for the movie was built by a well known race shop who misunderstood the brief and built a full race car when they only needed to build a prop. Thin slow moving plot but iconically cool car guy acting. Non hotrodders will probably fall asleep during this, for cult classic petrol heads only 7/10

Wall-e
Been wanting to see this for months now, I was a big fan of Pixar however they seemed to have lost their touch recently with both Cars and Ratatouille being rather rubbish imo. However fortunately this was a return to form in a big way for them, it's possibly my favorite out of all of their movies now. It's been so long since i've watched a childrens film with as much charm and character as those from my own childhood. It's damn near perfect. 10/10

Body Of Lies
Starring
7/10 It's a good film with strong performances, Crowe is quite dislikeable and a world away from Gladiator or Romper Stomper. Di Caprio didn't irritate me and he gets beaten up which is always a bonus, it isn't overtly moralistic and emphasises numerous times that winning and losing the war on terror is a matter of perspective as much as anything else. So it's a good film and yet I feel slightly disappointed by it for some reason.

Nay, nay and thrice nay.....and for two very good reasons.
1) He's hardly a very versatile actor, but he's not bad in this movie. 2) The presence of the living god that goes by the name of Gene Hackman prevents this movie from being bad. He's elevated much worse movies than this one upto the status of being actually watchable. |
