The frustrating thing is that Simon Cowell is massively out of touch with music.

He's out of touch with good music. Generally its 12 year old girls that buy singles, most people with good music taste buy albums. The result of this is, if you want to get to number 1 in the singles chart churn out some catchy rubbish and publicize it to hell and back. Generally the top 10 album charts is of a much higher quality than the singles chart.

Yeah, I should have said, good music.

He's also very defined. An example is last years American Idol winner David Cook who Simon thought was incredibly original because every week he made a song 'his own' by putting a slant on a famous record, what Simon didn't know is that David Cook did someone elses different version of a well known song - I knew this, but the majority of the general public in the US and kids who buy singles wouldn't, nor did Simon.

You'd wish someone dead because you don't agree what with they believe to be good music? Sounds a bit harsh to me.

As with many things in the media, Simon Cowell tells people what they should like and the less independent thinking people go out and buy it. He then has the smug satisfaction of telling us that he was right because, if he wasn't, why would people buy it?

It's just a self-fulfilling prophecy. You can see it week on week in the X-Factor finals. Some weeks a contestant will have an absolute mare, but one of the judges will heap praise on them as if it was the greatest performance ever. Surprise surprise, that contestant isn't even in the bottom two despite their flaccid performance.

I am currently torn between rooting for Alexandra's song to come number 1 because of the anger it seems to engender, an alternative version because of the disappointment in the Alex camp, or rooting for Rick Astley simply for the epic lulz

I'm personally hoping for no number one whatsoever, I'm not sure how to ensure this happens but perhaps a giant media blackout and deletion of all data pertaining to number of records sold in the past week is the way to go. It seems a little less violent than killing Simon Cowell although I can't disagree with the sentiment, the thing that really worries me about that scenario is if he then turns into a Princess Diana type figure and people forget his bad points.

What a big pile of steamy bollocks. I like the Shrek version, personally. Just because it reminds me of his sad little green face Aww!
