Default How to stream media from PC to 360?

Hi guys,

Is it possible to stream media from my PC on my Xbox 360? Do I need to have media centre installed?

Cheers

You can stream media player's library (enable media sharing in it's preferences), or use something like TVersity.

Indeed you can - though you do need a recent Windows Media Player on the PC (11 works, dunno about 10). Also, remember to keep WMP away from your MP3 tags if you've spent a while getting them right.

I've enabled media sharing and dragged the files I want to stream into library, but when I go into my Xbox video library nothing shows up.

Cheers

I assume you went into Media Player, tools, options, library, configure sharing, and added the console there. If you're running a firewall other than the Windows one you'll have to open some network ports too.

If you haven't, try those, and then from the console, go to network settings and do a connection check with the PC. See if that tells you anything useful.

Yep I did that. I added both consoles. I don't have a firewall so that shouldn't be a problem. I'll try and get some more info about it though.

Cheers

Just so you know what to expect, when it's working the PC should be listed (by name) on the 'Select source' page on the console.

Yeah it does actually show up, but it says 'no video' or something along those lines.

Does the stuff I plan to watch have to be a certain format?

Cheers

Yup - the Xbox is decidedly picky about file formats. I can't remember the specifics but I know there are plenty of issues. TVersity might be a better choice for you as it'll do on-the-fly transcoding. Haven't tried it myself yet though.
