I thought that initially but it got so irritating after a while, it was easier to get the play n charge kit. Brilliant accessory imo.

It's more the annoyance of a controller dying when you're using it, or worse, playing online, for me.

Bear in mind that, as the name suggests, you can also play and charge at the same time. Try doing that with a set of flat AAs. It's all about convenience.

I'd have to see how it went, I never had issues with my wavebird although that did have the decency to tell you when the batteries were low.

The 360 controller warns you for quite a while beforehand when batteries are running low.
