Continuous Wear Contact Lenses

Hey,

Anyone here use these? Tried contacts in the past and didn't get on too well due to being disorganised

However my glasses are annoying me more and more and I can't afford laser eye surgery so I was considering the next best option.

Anyone got opinions/advice they're willing to share?

I wore them for ages until I became allergic to the protein build up on them which is apparently quite common after a few years. I did think they were brilliant - put in and forget about for 30 days, only downside was if you lost one mid-month.

I now have the daily disposables - I was offered the option of weekly continuous wear ones but have found dailys to be better for me now; if I'm not going out and I can just wear my glasses, if I lose one it isn't as much a problem, I get 20 pairs a month which covers my workdays and then every few months I have to buy a box for each eye for the times I've lost one or have worn them at weekends.

I wore them for about a year or so until they started to irrate my eyes and I've switched to acuvue 2 weekly ones.

They were fantastic and I wish I could wear them again but to be honest I've got used to cleaning my lenses every night now and it's not too much of a PITA.

Jamie has been wearing them for years and still does without a problem

Yep, I'm on the Specsavers scheme. £15.50 a month gets you monthly lenses and all of your checkups, tests, replacement lenses, etc included. Put them in at the start of the month and leave them. They can take a little while to get used to and they may well start you off on daily lenses and then move you to monthly but I've never had any problems. You might occasionally get an irritation of something getting stuck under the lens but that's something you just have to live with.

^^ what he said. Think I've been on them for about...7 years or so now?

I still can't get my head round these. Opticians told us for years you should never sleep in your lenses to give you eyes time to recover and to breathe. When you did sleep in them you'd wake up with your eye stuck closed where the lens had half dried out and now they give out lenses that you don't take out for a whole month. How can they be a good thing?

I tried them and also built up an allergy to them.

Technology moves them on. They're now a lot more porous meaning the eye can "breath" better whilst keeping the lenses in for longer periods. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years we start to see quarterly lenses or something similar.

in the same way that firing lazers into your eyes was once seen as a very bad idea! Now it's a form of corrective surgery.
