Unhappy UH oh... Toovd Sadness...

Our toovd... for a few months now I have noticed that there's a darker "column" (it's not a set of dead pixels) on the right hand side of the screen (going vertically)

It's not massively noticeable unless you're watching something that pans across a block colour and then you're like "ah... darkened black column there".

Thing is... I a) canny find the receipt for it anywhere (it was actually a blooming nice and shocking Christmas Prezzie for us not last Christmas but the Christmas before) and b) reckon it will be out of guarantee anyway.

What do I do? Just accept there's nada I can do and put up with the "fault" or write of to LG and poke them about it?

*boo*

If it is over 12 months old I don't think there is much you can do but arrange to get it repaired. I was careful when I bought ours to make sure we had a 5 year guarantee with it, good luck pheebs.

EDIT: I'd check on avforums.com to see if anyone else is having the same issue as you with their TV.

Well it being bought for us... we didn't really know. I guess we should have gone and got an extended one.

BUM CHEEKS!

Still. LG - we worship their stuff... it's never failed us... and a couple of months out of gaurentee and looky what it does! Just as I was going to suggest putting some money aside and saving for a small LG flat screen upstairs (our toovd upstairs is like... sooooo old and takes up the whole surface of a drawer and due to the switch over, won't work soon). Now I'm like "Boo hiss!"

Maybe we just got unlucky!

I know it was bought from currys or somewhere similar... if I find out where, could I not give them the model number and then they find a receipt on their records or is that like... never gonna happen?!

Always worth ringing the manufacturer & giving them the details, There records will let you know if it's a warranty fix or not & if not they will advise on cost for repair etc I Never make a decision until I've spoken to them. Some times they are well sweet & some times you luck out but well worth the cost & time of a phone call.

Have a read of the 'Sale of Goods Act.' Here are a couple of quotes I picked up from a quick read:

Quote:
• Wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).
Quote:
• Goods are of satisfactory quality if they reach the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking into account the price and any description.
Quote:
• Aspects of quality include fitness for purpose, freedom from minor defects, appearance and finish, durability and safety.
Quote:
• It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract.
Quote:
• If goods do not conform to contract at the time of sale, purchasers can request their money back "within a reasonable time". (This is not defined and will depend on circumstances)
Quote:
• For up to six years after purchase (five years from discovery in Scotland) purchasers can demand damages (which a court would equate to the cost of a repair or replacement).
Quote:
• A purchaser who is a consumer, i.e. is not buying in the course of a business, can alternatively request a repair or replacement.
Quote:
Q7. Do I have to produce a receipt to claim my rights?

No. In fact the trader doesn't have to give you a receipt in the first place so it would be unfair to say that you had to produce one. However, it might not be unreasonable for the shop to want some proof of purchase, so look to see if you have a cheque stub, bank statement, credit card slip etc., and this should be sufficient.

Burble beat me to it. You might be able to argue that the TV wasn't fit to purpose. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a TV to work for more than a year.

Yeah, SoGA is the way to go with that. They will try to push back, so do some reading and then write them a letter with the relevant information.

Remember that your contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturer. Don't take no fobbing off about manufacturer warranties because that's not what the law says.
