DVD drive 'gone' after image failed to burn
Evening... my dvd burner has been making coasters instead of Win7 RC all day.
I've noticed that after the failure, the drive also seems to go missing from my computer. Any ideas what might cause this? I'm currently trying to figure out the model number so i can update drivers & firmware. |

How old is your drive? What software are you using to make DVD?
If you're still having lots of trouble I can post you a copy of the DVD |

I have had a problem with the Windows 7 RC as well. I do wish that Microsoft would publish the MD5SUM hashes for these .ISOs as available from their website.

They're commonly available *cough* elsewhere *cough* if you need them.
As for the DVD issue, sounds like it's locking up. One of my old drives did that. Could be that it needs cleaning, or it could be the drive or data cable are kaput. |

Probably a problem with the laser. Had a similar problem on an external drive - it'd read DVDs fine but not CDs. Turned out that a common fault on that particular model resulted in the CD laser burning out.

My laptop drive doesn't like reading DVDs unless I hit it.

Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped writing about other things and made this your signature, yours could be like mine. Look down, back up. Where are you? You're on Boat Drinks, reading the signature your signature could be like. I'm on a computer. |

They're separate lasers aren't they? Not that strange to think one died before the other.
