Watched the first three series religiously but have hardly bothered since then, just catching the odd news and watching the eviction shows sort of.

No live feed this year though which sort of defeats the entire object of the show.

I have to say I'm quite stunned that Endemol would consider someone like this for the show

Mat, just wondering - would you feel the same way about a bloke willing to leave his 7 month old kid behind?

I think it's a bad idea and I'd never do it... but I'd say the onus has on people to not want to do it and to really accept their responsibilities, rather than the production company stopping them from doing so. I know there's an argument for not giving people the opportunity, but I don't think that's the real issue.

Not sure if that makes sense.

I would feel the same even if he were a father in a stable family with the child's mother with them for all the time they were away. 3 months is just two long and also feel the same way with a single father doing it. I know people work away from home and I can understand that, but leaving your child out of choice, to go on reality TV? Come on!

As it is this is a single mum with two children, one of whom is 7 months old and she is going to leave that child for potentially half of its life span to date to go on TV, what is parenting coming to in the country?

Yes people have a choice, but TV companies also have a choice and I hold them at least partially responsible. She might not have had this smaller child when she had the audition but she did have the older one and its two long to leave children of that age ley alone this younger child.

I have to say I find it pretty outrageous to be honest

I s'pose it could be argued though that she is sacrificing the time with her children to give them a better future, She could quite easily come out of this with enough money to buy a family home out right. No kids remember the first few years so if the kids are left with the Grandmother then it could be argued that it's for the best

Just playing devils advocate here, Personally I would like the Mother of my kids at home with them.

It's quite possible that she never expected to get this far & also doesn't expect to be in there that long either, If she lasts two weeks it'll be enough to get her some work/money.

I think that we've reached the point where contestants who aren't wannabees are either not present of are in a tiny minority of the housemates.....which is a shame in my book.
My take on BB has never changed. Anyone who automatically dismisses it out of hand is making a rather foolish choice IMHO as is someone who thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread without seeing an episode of the current series. To state that the format itself is where your problem with the show begins is like saying you don't like stand-up comics. The content is totally dependant on the contestants and the editing staff. Sometimes it's composed of some of the funniest TV I've ever seen. Other times it's crap/boring.
That said, I can't understand anyone who watches more than the 45 minute hilight show, as the live feed redefines "slow".
The show is still social psychology 101 though, and people think this is to do with the typical personality/intelligence of the housemates but it's not. There have been serious studies involving confinement and authority delegation and even among well educated and adjusted participants the same things tend to happen. Certain traits come to the surface, alliances are formed, battle lines are divided and drawn up etc etc. As much as some of us would like to think it's true, the fact remains that deep down we're all more similar than we'd perhaps like to admit.

Im afraid I share Michael Parkinsons view on this. Personally, I hate that this is what we have become, voyeurs with nothing better to do than watch other people in misery. There is nothing redeeming about Big Brother except the end of it when the winner (biggest loser) gets to become a big non entity and return to their otherwise "look at me" attention seeking life having been exploited by the media.

No, I won't be watching it.
