Thumbs up MS Print Migrator

I don't know if this is relevant to many but what the hell.

I'm in Frankfurt for a few days to replace a File & Print server. This office is our European distribution hub so there are a lot of printers dotted around the warehouse. Couple that with the sales office printers and you have 87 printers shared from that box.

The idea of manually adding 87 printers to the new box didn't excite me so I had a quick google and found the Microsoft Print Migration tool. You run it against the original server to create a CAB file of all the printer settings then run it against the new server and it'll restore that backup.

Net result is that all the printers were installed and shared on the new box in less than 5 mouse clicks.

If this is useful to anyone then the download link is here.

I'd never heard of it before but then again I don't normally get involved with FPS migrations. I called one of my chaps to see how they managed the printer side of things and was told that they had an RDP session to each box and did the settings manually.

Stuff that.
